Dawn is a dedicated person who has helped others throughout her career. She is successful and has accomplished many things since graduating from university. She is a skilled occupational therapist who has a passion for helping people.

Over the years, Dawn has honed her expertise in a range of settings, catering to both children and adults. Her experience spans across diverse areas, including:

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS):

Dawn has been a valuable support to young people with occupational therapy needs because she has addressed their unique needs and provided support that has helped them to grow and develop. Her dedication to her work is evident, and she has a passion for helping young people in need.

Adult Community Mental Health Team:

Her dedication extends to adults, where she has contributed to the well-being of individuals in the community.

Inpatient Acute Assessment and Discharge:

Dawn has been incredibly helpful in facilitating the transition of patients from inpatient care to their homes. She has a great sense of urgency and is always working to ensure that the patients get the best care possible.

Inpatient Palliative Care:

She has made a significant impact on the comfort and quality of life of palliative care patients.

Children’s Community Therapy Team:

Dawn is an interventionist who works with special needs students and mainstream students. She uses creative methods to help students grow and achieve their goals.

Independent Occupational Therapist:

Dawn’s commitment to comprehensive care is evident as she covers a range of assessments and services, including discharge to assess, home and community assessments, housing and adaptations, mobility assessments, and assessments for organisations like The Royal British Legion, RAF Benevolent Fund, SSAFA, and more.

Dawn’s dedication goes beyond standard practice. She has completed specialist training in sensory integration because she is committed to understanding and addressing sensory challenges in her clients.

At Waves Occupational Therapy, we have another highly skilled occupational therapist available who specialises in paediatrics. She excels at building strong relationships with her clients and offers comprehensive assessments and treatment programmes tailored to their individual needs. Our therapist provides support and advice to children and their families on various aspects, including equipment, moving and handling, education, EHCP assessments, and interventions to enhance overall function.

Experience

She is committed to continuous professional development, actively engaging in research, attending conferences, and staying abreast of the latest practices to ensure her knowledge and skills are up-to-date and well-informed. Our therapist particularly enjoys working with children facing challenges such as brain injury, complex needs, and PMLD, striving to maximise their function and independence in everyday life. She is passionate about ensuring activities and interventions are meaningful to the child, and she focuses on making therapy accessible and engaging.

Paediatric Community and Special Schools

Our therapist has extensive experience in community paediatrics, managing high caseloads, and working with children and families in both mainstream and specialist schools. She has been the sole occupational therapist in a special school, managing children aged 0–18 with a functional focus to empower children and families to be as independent as possible.

Mental Health/ Autism/ ABI

Additionally, she has provided support to children and young people aged 8–18 who were unable to manage in mainstream education due to difficulties resulting from mental health needs or autism. She also conducted 1:1 sessions with children with acquired brain injuries and other neurological conditions, regularly completing progress reports and annual reviews while providing training to other team members to maximise the potential of their sessions.

Trauma and Orthopaedics

Our therapist has also worked in acute wards covering elderly care, trauma, and orthopaedics, specialising in safely discharging patients back to their preferred destination and ensuring all equipment and training were provided and in place. She is skilled at managing highly emotional and challenging circumstances and providing compassionate care in various settings.

Independent Occupational Therapist:


Our therapist demonstrates a commitment to comprehensive care by actively covering a range of assessments and services, including mobility, posture, and seating assessments, equipment evaluations, as well as home and community assessments. Additionally, she conducts assessments for esteemed organisations like The Royal British Legion, RAF Benevolent Fund, SSAFA, and more, ensuring thorough and tailored support for our clients.

Toolkit

The Waves OT toolkit includes a variety of standardised occupational therapy assessments. These assessments are vital to tailoring their services to meet individual needs. Some of the assessments they use include:

Movement ABC-2 (MABC-2): A comprehensive tool for assessing motor skills in children.

Detailed Assessment of the Speed of Handwriting (DASH): An evaluation of handwriting speed and legibility.

Sensory Profile: An assessment to understand an individual’s sensory preferences and sensitivities.

Sensory Processing Measure: A tool to evaluate sensory processing patterns.
